Gorey J1s Finish With A Win

Gorey's participation in the Leinster league Division 2B came to a conclusion on Sunday last in Ballbriggan with a 24 10 win. With the league wrapped up two weeks earlier the legue champions travelled with a very young side and with the intention of playing an open and expansive game.

The game started off at a terrific pace with the home team taking the game to Gorey and were unlucky not to score, Gorey countered attack and a sweeping g move saw the Gorey boys on the Balbriggan line, a five metre scrum saw man of the match Isaac Porter crash over for the opening try Aidan O Brien kicked a magnificent conversion after missing an earlier sitter in front of the posts. Balbriggan came right back at Gorey and sustained pressure scored a well deserved try in the corner to leave the score at halftime 7 5. Gorey should have had further scores but poor finishing cost them. The second half saw the league champions step up to the mark and further tries from Ben Horan Ciaran Allen and a fine individual try from Thomas Sheehy secure the bonus point. A solitary try was Balbriggan's only reward after some good work by their pack.

The final whistle brought the curtain down on a great season and Gorey can now look forward to Division 2A rugby next season. The Gorey pack that finished the game was all under 23 and a bonus point win was no mean achievement and augurs well for next year. Next up for Gorey is an away game to Naas in the Plate on Monday the 19th . The forwards worked hard with Ciaran Smith Isaac Porter and Colin French the pick of a hard working pack . The backs also showed well with Matt Batter Thomas Sheehy and Tommy Martin the pick.
