GOREY UNDER 15s WIN LEINSTER CUP REPLAY 2012-02-28 08:50:00

GOREY 14 BARNHALL 0

GOREY UNDER-15s  managed to redress a 22-22 draw the previous week in Barnahall to secure a 14-0 result in their first round replay match. This puts Gorey into the second round of the Leinster Cup to face Portlaoise next weekend.

On a glorious Saturday morning, Gorey started well and were determined not to leak as many points as they did in the first match. Indeed, it looked ominous for Barnhall when, in the first five minutes, winger Sam Kennedy broke down the left wing to score the opening try.

Gorey had obviously worked on their defence during the week with good tackling all round, but in particular from Conor Butler, Ian Maguire, Paul Boyle, Stanley Hadden, Nicholas Kearnes and Jack O'hagen.

Gorey dominated in the scrums, with hooker Jack Byrne winning plenty against the head and No. 8 Paul Boyle also making a notable contribution.

Gorey did well at the breakdown and, although they had plenty of supremacy, the Barnhall backs were a constant threat. With the game locked at 7-0 throughout it was anyone's until the final decisive score.

With only two minutes to go, Sam Kennedy made another fine break and scored again, securing the 14-0 victory for Gorey.

The squad included Darragh Bellanova, Jack Byrne, Dan Keogh, Ross Doyle, David Burke, Stanley Hadden, Paul Boyle, Jack O'hagen, Lee Farrell-mccabe, Kevin Harrington, Ian Maguire, Joe Gardiner, Conor Butler, Nicholas Kearnes, Sam Kennedy. Subs. - Eoin Corcoran, Cathal Murphy, Achille Kinsella.
