Gorey Senior Ladies V Barnhall   11/01/2015

Gorey RFC Snr Ladies played Barnhall, in their first game of the new year, on a cold blustery Sunday morning in Clonattin. Gorey were missing a couple of vital players due to injury and illness, but still had a strong team out to play the Kildare team. The game was incredibly defensive for the Gorey side, even though they took the lead early on, with an excellent try from scrumhalf Maeve Bolger, but failed to convert. Gorey were then awarded a penalty soon afterwards which winger Lorraine Gahan converted. Great defence efforts by Gorey, throughout the first half, kept Barnhall out of Gorey's 22. However Barnhall went over in the closing minutes of the first half for a try, but failed to convert also, due to the high winds.

Barnhall then went over the try line in the early second half. But didn't convert again. Gorey were then down to 14 women after winger Aoife Crowe was given a harsh yellow card. Gorey fought to put more points on the board but unfortunately were not successful. The final score was 10-8 to Barnhall.

Clodagh Carroll, Nuala Kelly, Evelyn Johnston and Dee Farrell led the defence for the majority of the game, not missing vital tackles. Gorey were promising in attack but, despite their best efforts, Deirdre Codd and Denise Deering failed to break the line a couple of times due to the strong Barnhall defence.
Gorey host Tullamore in Clonattin next Sunday at 1pm.  It should be a promising match for this Gorey side so please come up & give them your support.
