                                                                                     Quarter Finals Towns Plate

Gorey J1's travelled to Newbridge Rugby Club, County Kildare to face Naas seconds in the quarter finals of the Towns Plate Competition on the back of an emphatic victory over Tullow in the opening round of this competition. This game was due to be played in Nass, however it was changed to the County Kildare Rugby Club to facilitate the hosting of Provinical Towns Cup Semi Final between Ashbourne and Enniscorthy in Naas RFC.Gorey were taking on Naas 2nds who are a senior club and their first team play in the UBL League and their 2nds were entered in the Towns Cup proper.

Gorey were travelling to Newbridge missing thirteen players from their first team squad but with Gorey having three senior teams and under nineteen players,  Phil Horan was able to call upon the services of fringe players who were knocking on the door of the first team and were given an opportunity to prove themselves.

This game turnout to be a real nail bitter to the finish with tries a plenty and super goal kicking. Gorey opened their account when a super cross field kick from Stephen Duke was caught by John Condern who went over for the first try of the day. Next up was a brilliant run out of Naas's 22 by James Nolan with Condern in support ready for the final pass, went over for his second try and with one conversion made by Nolan Gorey were on the front foot. Naas however responded with a push over try and an intersect try and brought the score to 12 all at halftime.

Gorey resumed the second half with a big push into Naas's 22 and with their scrum working well landed a push over try by Michael Woods and Gorey were on top.  This was followed by another when Colin French had a supercatch in the line out and made a great off load to Woods, who ran over to score his second try and with all conversions made by Nolan, Gorey were 26pts to 12pts up.

However Naas never gave up and staged a comeback with two push over tries of their own,  bringing the score to 26 all. This left a nail biting finish and it was Gorey who finished the better with Stephen Duke latching on to a intersept and scoring, James Nolan converted and finishing   with a long range penalty kick bought the game to an end with Gorey winning 36pts to Naas 31pts. This sets Gorey up for a home semi-final against the their old rivals Carlow at home.
