UNDER 13s THROUGH TO LEINSTER LEAGUE FINAL
Gorey under 13's played Naas RFC in the Leinster League on Saturday the 24th
March in Carlow and secure their place in the final.
From the first whistle you knew Gorey were up for this game, Cameron
Reynolds catching the Naas kick off and running straight back at then,
making some great ground, Connor O Toole whipping the ball out to Tom
Cleary, back into contact. O Toole getting the ball out again, this time out
along the back line all the way to the winger, Jack Minogue , who made a
super run before running out of space and into touch. Having Lloyd Stephens
in the front of the line out forced Naas to go for the long ball where Shane
Stokes stole it, Gorey were on the attack again. This was the tempo of the
game.
The half time score was 13 0.
Naas came out with a new determination and put Gorey under the cosh, Gorey
had to defend like they never had before to keep Naas out. Naas played some
very good rugby and when they got the ball out to the back's you were sure
they were going to be rewarded but unfortunately for them it was not their
day and some simple mistakes cost them dearly. The second half was a very
closely fought game with both sides getting a try each and Gorey 3 point
from a penalty which Jack O Mahoney slotted between the posts.
Gorey's pack played very well with Cameron Reynolds and Mickey Duke having
their best game of the season and with the usual great performances from
Eoin Molloy and Shane Stokes. Connor O Toole showed how a versatile Rugby
player he is, going from the wing to scum half, his 3rd game in this
position and you would think he had never played anywhere else. Killian
Pearce as full back had some mighty tackles and stopped a couple of sure
try's, Sean Barden, playing his first season continues to develop as a rugby
player and made some super breaks along the line and provided great support
to his number 8 when he was on a run.
Gorey travel to Kildare on the 2nd April to play Naas in the Leinster cup
quarter final, I am sure Naas will be prepared and waiting
The Gorey try scorers were Tom Clearly, Mickey Duke and Shane Stokes,
penalty kick by Jack O Mahoney.
The final score Gorey 18 Naas 5
