GOREY J2s JUST PIPPED

An under strength Gorey J2 team made the long Journey to Dundalk and after a hard fought battle were narrowly beaten on a score of 10 - 5.

This is one game that Gorey will feel they let slip, as they dominated for large swathes of the game and could have been in front at halftime.

Outhalf Colm O'Keefe kept his forwards on the front foot with some astute passing and kicking. Strong running from Eoin Walsh and Tommy Martin in the backs also helped punch holes in the Dundalk defence, but the elusive scores never seemed to materialise.

To be fair Dundalk squandered a chance or two as well as both teams went in level at halftime.

Gorey started the second half with purpose and early pressure again yielded little return. On the 50th minute Gorey we’re finally rewarded when Eddie Horan crashed over for the opening try. It was no more than Gorey deserved. Within minutes Gorey were back on the home line and but a stubborn home defence denied them a second score.

Dundalk rallied and introduced some fresh legs which unfortunately Gorey did not have. The last ten minutes saw the home team reduce the lead with a penalty and with just five minutes left on the clock tacked on a try and conversion to deny Gorey a win that looked very unlikely.

10 - 5 was how it finished after a tremendous effort from the visitors. Gorey to a man were fantastic with Niall Cousins, Cameron Reynolds Eddie Horan the pick of the forwards. Tommy Martin Colm O'Keefe and man of the match Eoin Walsh showed well in the backs
